Family Matters is an American sitcom about a middle-class family living in Chicago. The series aired from September 22, 1989 to May 9, 1997 on ABC and moved to CBS on September 19, 1997 to July 17, 1998.
The show, a spin-off of Perfect Strangers, originally focused on the character of Carl Winslow and his family: wife Harriette Winslow, rebellious son Eddie Winslow, intelligent daughter Laura Winslow, and youngest child Judy Winslow. The family had opened their home to Carl's street-wise mother Estelle Winslow as well as Harriette's sister Rachel Crawford and her son Richie Crawford after the death of Rachel's husband. The Winslows' nerdy next-door neighbor Steve Urkel was introduced midway through the first season, and quickly became the focus of the show. It was part of ABC's TGIF from 1989 until 1997 before it became part of the CBS Block Party lineup from 1997 until 1998. Family Matters currently airs on Nick at Nite.
Having aired for 215 episodes, Family Matters is the second-longest running U.S. comedy with a predominantly African-American cast, surpassed only by The Jeffersons.

Diet Dos and Don'ts
Do fill up on fiber-Protein is digested more slowly than carbohydrates and fat, so it takes fewer calories to fill you up. Fiber slows mealtime digestion and absorbs water, which expands your stomach and creates a feeling of fullness
Don't miss out on sleep-Recent studies show that sleep deprivation can make it difficult to fit into your favorite jeans. When you don't get enough shut-eye, your body produces more ghrelin, a hormone that makes you hungry, and less leptin, a hormone that increases satiety.
Do downsize-
Do veg out-Nonstarchy vegetables (anything but peas, corn, acorn/butternut squash, and potatoes) are "filler foods" in the best sense of the term. Low in calories and packed with water and fiber, vegetables fill you up without filling you out.
Don't eat standing up-Back when people ate most of their meals while seated at their kitchen or dining-room tables, rates of obesity were far lower.When eating is limited to a particular place, your brain doesn't associate other places with food, and the cascade of bodily signals that stimulate appetite is activated less frequently.
Do limit your choices-Contrary to popular belief, variety is not all that it's cracked up to be—at least when it comes to snacks. When you have more to choose from, you tend to sample a little of this and a little of that, which can lead to a lot of extra pounds. Besides, research shows that we are generally happier eating our favorite foods repeatedly than experimenting with a wide variety.
Don't eat in the dark-Dining by candlelight may be romantic, but the end result can be anything but. Eating in a dimly lit room tends to make people consume more calories.

Brotherly Love
Mom brought him home for me one day
In a basket of baby-blue,
I kisses his bald and wrinkled head
And whispered, "I love you."
He wasn't fun to play with then
This infant red as a beet,
For entertainment all he did
Was kick and eat and sleep.
Perhaps, I thought, we'll give him back
This brother is a drag,
He's much too young to play my games
OF junp-rope, jacks and tag.
But Mother said he's here for keeps,
I was thankful in the end;
My brother, once a childhood pest,
Is now my dearest friend.

Family Ties
Woven through the years,
of laughter, love and tears.
Family ties are cherished things
forged in childhood days,
by love of parents deep and true,
by tradition, by family ways.
Family ties are treasured things
and far though we may roam,
the tender bonds with those we love
still pull our hearts toward home.

Fall Garden Tips
Fall is just around the corner.
If your place has a place for gardening , here are some gardening tips for fall season.
1.Clean
Scour pots with a stiff-bristled brush and rinse. A solid wood handle and palm fibers make this brush from Smith & Hawken a durable choice.
2.Store Pots
Once clean, turn your terra-cotta pots upside down to prevent them from filling with water, freezing, and cracking. Stack them to save on space.
3.Cover Plants
To keep hardy container gardens, such as succulents, from freezing, cover them with a tarp. Be sure to bring delicate potted plants inside.
4. Stow Hoses
Don't let your garden hose spring a leak! Empty it of waste and keep it safe from the elements. (Remember to turn off outdoor water sources.) A hose pot keeps it neat.

Children learn what they live
he learns to condemn;
If a child lives with hostility,
he learns to fight;
If a child lives with ridicule,
he learns to be shy;
If a child lives with shame,
he learns to feel guilty;
If a child lives with tolerance,
he learns to be patient;
If a child lives with encouragement,
he learns confidence;
If a child lives with praise,
he learns to appreciate;
If a child lives with fairness,
he learns justice;
If a child lives with security,
he learns to have faith;
If a child lives with approval,
he learns to like himself;
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
He learns to love the world.

To My Mother
you were always by my side to give
me support to give me confidence
to give me help
For as long as I can remember
you were always the person
I looked up to so strong
so sensitive so pretty
For as long as I can remember
and still today you are
everything a mother should be...
For as long as I can remember
you always provided stability
within our family full of laughter
full of tears full of love
Whatever I have become is because of you
and I thank you forever for our relationship.
