It's Coming
A Thanksgiving Poem
The leaves are changing their colors by the day
The palette hasn't changed since early May
Now there is a bounty of different hues
Splashes of red, orange and yellow in every view
Farmers are busy in their fields
Hoping to have bountiful yields
Ghosts and goblins have gone away
Thanksgiving is on it's way
Now is the time to make your plans
Time to get out the trusty roasting pan
Set the menu and make a list
Make sure nothing is missed
Dig out Grandma's recipe for dressing
Her special touches are a blessing
Dash of this, pinch of that, no need to measure
Memories of her in her apron are something you should treasure
Getting up at dawn to start the feast
Kneading the dough and adding the yeast
Pulling the giblets and putting the bird to bed
The comforting smell of home made bread
As you look at the daunting task ahead
You are not filled with fear or dread
For laughter and love will erase any doubt
The love of your family is what it's all about
